Hurricane Sandy Damaged Chevy Corvair – Will it Run?
Deep down inside, there’s this feeling that many car enthusiasts get when they stumble upon a classic that has been sitting in the weeds, just waiting to be brought back to life. For many of the mechanically inclined among us, this is a very unique kind of excitement as we can visualize the possibilities of what these projects could potentially turn into.
Now, with an idea like this, the hope is that you’re going to come into a car that’s in pretty good shape. This is why most prefer to start with project cars that are from desert areas or from the south somewhere where road salt isn’t an issue. These machines have a higher probability of being in good condition when you really begin to dig into them and see how intact everything is.
This time, though, we join in with our Damon over at Hagerty for an episode of “Will it Run?” that seems to take on a car that hasn’t quite been living its life in the most desirable conditions. Instead, this old school Chevy Corvair has been living life as a hurricane survivor that took on some damage from Hurricane Sandy years ago and has been looking for resuscitation ever since. While these aren’t exactly the ideal circumstances and the car might be a little bit rough around the edges, we still have some hope as the Corvair could end up being a pretty nice ride with a bit of work.
Those who have watched our host in action likely know that the idea is to take this machine and breathe new life into it once again. He certainly isn’t a stranger to a challenge and this Corvair just feels like a car that’s going to throw the book at him.
In the video below, we get to join in for the excitement, going through this machine with a fine-tooth comb to see if it can maybe have a shot at seeing the street again.
