Koenigsegg Unveils Family Friendly 4-Seat HyperCar That Does 0-60 in 1.9s

Most hypercars focus on one thing – going fast. Koenigsegg had some different plans.

Don’t get us wrong, the brand is still all-in on their pursuit of speed. However, as time goes on, we find that we’re able to broaden our horizons. After all, hopefully, with product evolution, we get better at things. As we become more and more comfortable with the way things are, eventually, we can add to the blueprint a little bit.

Let’s Talk Numbers

Apparently, that was the line of thinking behind the latest offering from Koenigsegg. The Koenigsegg Gemera is a four-seat hypercar that’s breaking the mold. The car is packing 1700 hp and 2,580 lb-ft of torque with a combination of three electric motors and a three-cylinder engine. Yup, you read that one correctly. When all is said and done, it’ll rocket from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds.

With the electric motors alone, the car delivers 1,100 hp and can manage 186 mph. One of these motors is powering each of the rear wheels. The other is on the crankshaft. When combined with the force of the combustion engine, the top speed number is bumped up to 250 mph. This “Freevalve” combustion engine is aided by a pair of turbos and is designed to run on renewable fuels. We’re also told that the engine creating 600 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque is capable of being CO2-neutral.

A New Concept

Within the car, it seems as if the brand has taken a different approach to functionality. With some of these performance monsters, we have come to expect no creature comforts whatsoever. One of the things that folks forget about many of these supercars and beyond is that they’re built with a heavy focus on performance.

On the other hand, we get what Koenigsegg is calling a “Mega Car.”

The Gemera offers up an entire playlist of enticing features. Just a couple include front and rear seat infotainment along with things like heated and cooled cupholders. The car even brags tons of space for luggage, providing enough space for up to four people to bring a bag.

At the end of the day, we have found a reliable theme within the Koenigsegg camp. They’re always trying something different and they’re doing it at a very high level.
