Larry Dixon Has Been Suspended By The NHRA Indefinitely

“Three time Top Fuel champion and sixty-two time national event winner Larry Dixon”

Former 3 time top fuel champion, and winner of 62 national events Larry Dixon broke the internet, and stole the show at the Annual SEMA show when he unveiled his new “Nitro2” Two seat dragster, in which anyone can get a ride along with the former champion for a whopping $10,000. While he stated the car was inspected by an NHRA official, and tagged to be run on NHRA Tracks the NHRA sanctioning body decided this wasn’t the case, and has suspended his license indefinitely.

The NHRA’s official statement reads

“The NHRA imposed an indefinite suspension of competition privileges against Larry Dixon for violating NHRA Rules, particularly Section 1.3.1 Participant Conduct and 1.6.3 Chassis Inspection of the 2017 NHRA Rulebook.  NHRA Tech Department discovered the use of a NHRA chassis tag on an unauthorized and unapproved two seat dragster.  Any further incidents could result in further action.  Larry can appeal the decision, per the 2017 NHRA Rulebook.”

Where lines may get blurred will be when Dixon looked beyond tracks sanctioned by the NHRA to campaign the car. All of the promotional footage for Nitro2 was filmed at non-NHRA member facilities and, as far as we know, he should be able to continue to run the car at facilities outside the NHRA’s sanction.
