Micro Machines Are Making a Comeback 2020!
Via an official press release, “Hasbro has entered into an agreement to appoint Wicked Cool Toys as global master toy licensee for one of the hottest toy lines of the 1980s and 1990s, Micro Machines.”
The original company behind the brand, Galoob, has since been absorbed by Hasbro. Therefore, we’re expecting a similar yet updated product. As far as specific details, the release didn’t mention much. It basically recapped what the toys used to be and how they came in different variations. It also outlined the background of the companies involved.
When are they Coming?
When can we expect them? The release tells us to mark our calendars for the fall of 2020.
This is a pretty smart move if you ask us. We’re certainly no toy experts. However, if there’s one thing that we want to do as we get older, it’s sharing our nostalgia. As scary as it might be, kids of the 80s and 90s alike are beginning to become parents. It seems like those behind the move will be targeting kids as well as their parents. The release is also slated to conveniently come right before the 2020 holiday season.
Heck, as a 20 something without kids, I’m halfway considering checking them out myself!
Michael Rinzler, co-president of Wicked Cool Toys, said, “Micro Machines is one of those amazing nostalgic brands that still has appeal 30 years later. There is huge potential to bring it back.” Jeremy Padawer, co-president, continued, “Considering recent toy unboxing trends, the brand’s multigenerational appeal, and the vehicle category’s ripeness for something ‘new’ again, we believe Micro Machines will be a global phenomenon.”

The video below gives us a taste of the marketing effort behind the toys in the 80s. It will be interesting to see how much of the original design and feel is retained with the new version. With a whole new audience to engage with, we can’t know what they’re going to throw at us.
Be careful, guys and girls, that’s our childhood that you’re revamping!
