Mid-Engine Corvette C8.R Caught Testing at Sebring, Sounds More Like Exotic Than Corvette
The idea of a mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette is certainly nothing new. For years upon years, enthusiasts have been chatting about what it would be like if a Corvette ever took a road similar to that of some of its Italian competitors, taking on more of a supercar image instead of the all-American machine that is today. It certainly makes sense as it would be another layer of separation between itself and baby brother in the Chevrolet Camaro because, as we all know, the Corvette is certainly the favorite child, even if it means detuning the same engine in the Camaro, but I digress.
Now, of course, they’re not going to drop all of the American influence but we would be inclined to think that it was only a matter of time before the powers that be over at GM start to look into this kind of idea that would it reposition the location of the engine the car.
Lots of renderings of the car have come to life which we’ve seen before, in previous generations, so if you’re still not convinced that this is going to be a reality, even after all of the speculation, perhaps a video of the car testing might change your mind. Recently, a little bit of footage has dropped that is sure to get Corvette enthusiasts’ juices flowing as they see the new rendition of the car. However, we’re not sure if these folks are going to be in complete support of what they end up seeing. After all, no matter how great a change is, it’s still a change and sometimes, diehards cannot find themselves adapting to the way that these types of vehicles come along.
If you follow along in the video below, you’ll be able to get a taste of what this vehicle might look like when it finally ends up being revealed by Chevrolet. It seems like a lot of people think that the car sounds less like itself and perhaps a little bit more like an exotic. When combined with the facelift that it looks like the new generation is going to get, it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out when the car eventually makes it to market.
However, it really could lead one to question if this is really how it’s going to sound or if the exhaust note from what’s believed to be the C8.R is going to be different then the street trim version of the Corvette. After all, as the “R” designation is the racing version of the car, results may vary.
