New Footage Shows Moments Before Seattle Man Crashed Plane in 2018
In 2018, the world would watch in awe as a baggage handler stole an airplane from the airport that he worked at and took off into the sky. The fascinating story had the baggage handler effectively flying the plane around for about an hour. Unfortunately, it appears as if this was a suicide mission from the start as the man would later crash the plane on a remote island, killing himself in the process.
More recently, footage has been released that shows the baggage handler just moments before the crash. The footage shows the man unhooking the tow line from the plane that has nobody at the controls. As the plane starts to roll, the footage also shows the man getting the door open, climbing in the plane, and shutting the door. Eventually, he was obviously able to takeoff as well which is an astonishing feat.
After flying around Seattle for about an hour with a variety of people wondering what would happen, the sad story ended with the individual going down with the aircraft. The man named Richard Russell was sad to have been fighting some demons on his own. Over the radio, he said he was “just a broken guy, I got a few screws loose I guess.”
Below, we find that Inside Edition was able to procure the footage.
This is what they had to say about it: “A newly released video sheds new light on the moments leading up to Richard Russell crashing a plane. The footage shows him going through security wearing a T-shirt that says “the sky’s no limit.” He then boards an empty 70-seater plane and took off. Russell flew the plane around Seattle for an hour while National Guard fighter jets were scrambled in fear. The 2018 incident ended when Russell crashed the plane onto a remote island, killing himself.”
