Revisiting Tupac’s ’61 Impala Music Video Lowrider That has Since Been Modified
If there’s one area of the country that knows about lowrider culture, it’s Los Angeles. Over the years, this variety of machines has become rather popular as those behind them try to get as low to the ground as possible, all while introducing all sorts of beauty enhancements. Sometimes, we even see hydraulics thrown into the mix to make things even more interesting. There’s something special about watching a clean and custom machine rolling down the street while the front end is bouncing into the air.
This time, we check out the model that really seems to be the one that defines lowrider culture in the Chevrolet Impala. Over the years, the Impala has definitely become the most popular lowrider to roll the streets.
With this example, though, we’re not just looking at any old Chevy.
While there are plenty of Impalas that have been tricked out as lowriders over the years, this one definitely stands out as something special among the group. Sure, the car is incredibly clean and pristine. It has every component that one would expect on a perfect build. However, besides the show quality that the machine presents, it has also been given some screen time and a little bit of star power.
For those who don’t recognize the car, it was featured in one of Tupac’s music videos, “To Live and Die in LA.” Being able to have that sort of link to one of the biggest musical stars that the world has ever seen has to be pretty cool.
In the music video, the car was relatively close to stock, says the current owner. Since then, he has introduced a couple of modifications into the mix, a decision that he says that he didn’t take lightly. These days, however, the machine rolls through the streets, definitely showing that it has its roots deep in West Coast car culture.
Below, the crew from AutotopiaLA let this Chevy strut its stuff.
