State Threatens to Suspend Carvana Dealer License

Over the past couple of years, we have seen the rise of services that allow car buyers to avoid the dealership experience. With businesses like Carvana, a customer can purchase their vehicle entirely from home. They don’t even have to see it until it gets dropped off in their driveway.

However, as is to be expected, some of these services have a little bit of a learning curve in order to settle in. With something like Carvana, we could’ve seen it coming that perhaps there would run into a hitch or two in the plan that they need to solve.

Such a “hitch” recently came up as Carvana has been accused of breaking Florida law by not providing titles which makes customers unable to drive vehicles legally in the state. State officials have put a deadline on the matter with a crackdown.

An email from Robert R Kynok, the Director of Motorist Services in Florida, says that Carvana has been failing to comply with the provisions of Florida law that require a dealer to apply for a title within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle.

He then gave them a deadline, saying that by January 31, 2022, if Carvana has failed to submit title applications for any sale made prior to December 2021 that the department may commence administrative action to suspend Carvana’s dealer license in Florida.

All in all, this seems to be some sort of administrative error but hopefully, Carvana will be able to figure it out before long.
