Stevie Jackson Sets, Resets, Re-resets The NHRA Pro Mod Record
The NHRA Pro Mod season kicked off this weekend in spectacular fashion, as expected. A host of new cars rolled out for the first time, and the world ET record was broken not once, but three times, each of them by none other than fan favorite Steve “Stevie Fast” Jackson.
Stevie Fast sent his first shot in the third qualifying session, where he put up a 5.665 that qualified him number one and set he and his blown Camaro as the quickest car and driver in the history of the class. This also gave Jackson the distinction of heading up the quickest field in the history of the class as well, with a stout 5.75 bump that found class standouts Jim Whiteley, Sidnei Frigo, and Steve Matusek on the outside looking in come first round.
Jackson continued to lay down great passes, with an opening-round 5.68 when #16 qualifier Eric Latino broke before he could stage his car. In round 2, Jackson laid down a 5.69 to maintain his consistency while Steven Whiteley missed the call for eliminations. In the semifinals, Jackson would once again lower the record, ripping off a gorgeous 5.653 to earn a berth in the finals against heavy hitter Todd Tutterrow, who’d laid down a 5.665 that tied the record set by Jackson in qualifying.
In the finals, it would come down the reaction times, where Tutterow took a .008 leave and a 5.662 elapsed time to take the win over Jackson’s quicker 5.643 – once again lowering the record – which took runner up honors by just .009 of a second. Despite resetting the record and racing to a runner up, Jackson would leave second in points behind winner Tutterow since record runs don’t yield bonus points as they did in years past.
Congratulations to Jackson and the Bahrain1 team for their killer performances, as well as Tutterow and the AAP team as well on their great performance and for taking the win.
