The COOLEST “How To” Video Shows How to do a Brake Job on a 30 Ton Monster
If there’s one thing that YouTube really comes in handy for, it’s “how to” repair videos. I think that there is an entirely new generation of mechanics that have learned the majority of their skills by watching other people do it on the internet. Even experienced mechanics sometimes find themselves turning to YouTube to figure out how to do a more complex task or one that’s entirely too specific to a particular model for general knowledge to take care of.
This time, though, we take a little bit of a walk off of the beaten path. Instead of learning how to repair a normal vehicle, this time, we check in with something much bigger. At the end of the day, somebody has to work on these monster machines and if you weren’t wondering about it before, we would probably guess that there’s a good chance that you’re curious how they get worked on now.
In this one, we check in with a piece of heavy equipment, a 30-ton Bell B30E ADT that needs a little bit of brake work. As it turns out, these things are about 175,000 pounds of steel and rock when they’re in motion. Therefore, removing a wheel is an entire process let alone being able to repair the brakes on this thing.
After getting this bad boy in the air and removing the lugnuts, we find that an entire forklift is needed to carry the wheel. That’s just the start as everything from there on out is also incredibly massive. As it turns out, with a massive machine like this, there are also going to be some massive components underneath that assist in making it all work together.
Down in the video below from Newman Tractor, we get a unique look inside of a process that not too many people get to see.
