The Lamborghini LM002 V12 Was The Worlds First Luxury SUV!
“Two cars. One engine. Shared DNA.” That says it all.
All the way back in 1986, before Cadillac, Mercedes or BMW ever thought about building and SUV, and before Lexus even existed, Lamborghini built what some might way was their take on the legendary Hummer. A capable off-road ride with the creature comforts one would expect from a high-end sedan of the era, dubbed the LM002. While the LM002 certainly shares more with the Hummer in the looks department, beneath the hood lies the heart of a legend. The same Lamborghini V12 that powered the iconic Countach provided the motivation for the hulking SUV as well, giving it plenty of grunt for hitting the trails, should the owner be so inclined.
However, like most SUV’s, we doubt too many of these ever say a speck of dust that wasn’t kicked up off the road in front of them, and that’s completely okay. Who wouldn’t want to ride in an SUV built by one of the premier manufacturers in the automotive industry.

Known obviously for their low slung, high speed wedge shaped supercars, Lamborghini did, just briefly, try its hand in the offloading world. To be completely honest, the LM002 was probably just a little too far ahead of its time, as we’d be willing to bet a Lambo SUV, especially if they stick with the boxy, Hummer-esque aesthetic, would actually sell really well. It’s hard to say if the brand has the time, resources and want to – the want to likely being the primary factor – to transition to building a completely different type of ride, but can you imagine a Superleggera-esque SUV sitting on the showroom at the local Lambo dealer?
Let them hear what you think, Speed Society family. Would you like to see Lamborghini build another SUV? Would you rather it be sleeker and fast or should they stick with the larger, more off-roadable Hummer-style ride?
