The Official Unveiling of the Ferrari 812 Superfast at Ferrari of Tampa Bay
The 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast is, in a word, stunning. That doesn’t just apply to it’s exterior styling, though the sophisticated shape and sleek profile certain fall within than description. Stunning also applies to what lies beneath that refined aluminum body, namely the 6.5 liter V12 powerplant that cranks out just a tick under 800 horsepower and 530 ft/lbs of torque.
The car is built on the same frame as its predecessor, the F12 Berlinetta, but don’t let that make you think this is just a revamped F12. This is the first car in the Italian automaker’s lineup to feature electrically-assisted power steering, and while, according to Car and Driver’s review, it’s not quite as refined as it could be, it’s certainly a solid first effort. This addition makes steering easier and more precise, but tends to dull feedback to the driver, leaving the wheelman feeling a bit disconnected. However, that can be remedied over time with some tweaking of the system, so expect Ferrari to take this feedback from C&D and other and get to work making the system even better. Also, as you’ll hear in the video below, the exhaust note is purely intoxicating.
The interior of the car is everything you’d expect of a Ferrari: stylish, luxurious, and functional. Not too much, but also lacking nothing, while being as cushy and supple as one would expect from a $300,000 Italian sports car.
The 812 Superfast also lives up to its name, clicking of 0-60 times in 2.8 seconds and slicing through the air to a top speed of 211 MPH, all the while dressed like a gymnast in yoga pants; muscular, but lean, with every curve perfectly accentuated. And much like a gymnast, I would love to get my hands on one, even if just for a day. Chances are, in either case, that would be more than enough for a lifetime of memories.
