These Machines Shred Tires in Just Seconds!
Tires, by their very nature, are built to be durable. In fact, that’s one of their most important roles, providing tens of thousands of miles of safe, smooth driving for your car. As your car’s only point of contact with the road, they have to be strong, supporting thousands of pounds under some extreme forces and loads and high and cold temperatures.
I’m setting all of this up to make the point that this machine is a beast, because it munches tires like I munch tacos on Tuesdays, and my friends will tell you, they look about the same! With a massive reel inside fitted with two dozen cutting blades, a monster electric motor that keeps the blades churning no matter how big the tires that are dumped into the hopper. All of this is powered by a custom hydraulic power unit that gives the tire shredder enough power to demolish 12 tons of rubber donuts in an hours time. That’s nearly 200,000 pounds of tires in a single 8-hour shift, although it seems unlikely anybody would need to run this thing for 8 hours straight because who has that many tires to shred?
I have to admit, I have a little bit of a fascination watching these types of munchers do their thing. Especially the massive ones that shred whole cars and spit out a pile of metal ribbons and chunks. I can’t imagine what kind of torque these engines must make, but it’s clearly more than enough to get the job done, because they all seem to shred whatever is dropped into them effortlessly, hardly even changing pitch when they go from empty to full and back to empty.
And yes, before you guys out there who are already thinking about it, I have seen the videos of these things grinding up animals. I’d prefer to forget I saw those, so let’s not bring that up please. We’ll stick to metal and rubber munchers and that will do just fine, thank you.
