Turning a $500 Maaco Paint Job Into a $3,000 Paint Job (For Under $100)

When it comes to cheap paint shops, we have heard stories galore. Some of them are absolute horror stories that recommend that anybody in their right mind stays away from these shops. However, others argue that there are certain locations to take your vehicle that will end up putting a decent enough paint job on it.

We think that it’s highly unlikely that someone would go to a national chain paint shop and get a show-quality job. It really just doesn’t make sense for these shops to dig into that sort of detail. Their money is made by cranking out as many cars as possible. We, in the car community, are generally pretty picky. Most people, though, are looking for something that’s “Good enough.”

However, for somebody looking for something adequate that can maybe be touched up to become a great paint job, something like Maaco could fit the bill.

This time, we check in with these guys as a Maaco paint job is laid down on a Mazda RX-7. From what we can tell, the initial job isn’t all that bad for a $499 special. At the end of the day, that type of money isn’t going to get you very far in the world of paint jobs. However, with a little bit of attention to detail after-the-fact, the paint job can end up looking much better.

By following along with the video below, we get to tune in to see how this budget paint job is transformed into something that rivals a more expensive job. In fact, our uploader insists that the job rivals something that would cost $3,000 or more.

I guess it just goes to show that even on a budget, something to be done to look incredibly good. Sure, it might not be a show quality paint job. However, we have to remember that show quality paint job money wasn’t spent. For a street car, though, this is looking pretty darn good!
