Wakesurfing Goes To New Extremes Behind Massive Superyacht
Sometimes you just have to say screw it and just freakin’ send it. That’s exactly what this video is all about; throwing caution to the wind and living live the way it was meant to be lived.
Wake surfing is the latest trend in watersports, booting wakeboarding from the top of the popularity charts and quickly becoming the coolest way to ride behind a boat. Of course, most people wake surf behind a regular sized boat, on a lake or the river. Then there’s this guy, who takes things to a whole new level.
While he’s towed behind what appears to be a pretty typical boat, this wakesurfer makes his way over to the massive wake being thrown by an even more massive superyacht. We’re not talking about your step dad’s 35’ cabin cruiser here. This is a monster sized vessel, clad in appropriately gaudy gold, and screaming across the water at a high rate of speed. Just off the stern of the yacht, the surfer finds his rhythm and tosses the tow rope away, using only his legs to pump along in time with the boat’s wake to follow along, keeping pace with the boat the occupants on board watch from above.
It’s incredibly cool to see this, considering it’s likely costing the yacht’s owner several hundred dollars a minute to run along at these speeds, showing that money can, in fact, buy you happiness. That is assuming, of course, that having a huge boat full of people tearing across the open water as a dude on a surf board follows along in your wake makes you happy. It certainly would me, but there’s liable to be somebody out there who would say this is no fun at all.
Knowing she loves to wake surf any time the opportunity presents itself, I would love to see Team Speed Society top fuel wheelwoman Leah Pritchett give this a try. She and husband Gary are both avid surfers and I’m sure they could have a blast riding this monster wake!
