You Can Take a Seat Anywhere With This Wearable Chair
So I’ll admit, I read the headline for this video and was immediately skeptical. As is often the case, my brain wasn’t keeping up with the concept and imagined something much simpler and far more ridiculous. Where I had pictured some kind of actual folding chair the extended from your backside when it came time to take a load off. No matter how you rig that up, it’s never going to be subtle.
However, my vision was off, far short of the actual product shown in the video below. Instead of a folding chair, the design is more like robotic legs that lock into place when you decide to take a rest. Using a ratcheting mechanism that locks the legs in place after the wearer’s height of choice has been determined. Then with a simple press of a button, the legs lock at that angle and your lower body is supported by the legs of the Chairless Chair. As long as you keep weight on the flexed joint of the chair, they will continue to hold support. While it seems like it may take some getting used to, especially if you’re up and down a lot in your daily routine, but we have to assume that once you’re used to the Chairless Chair, it’s benefit will far outweigh the discomfort.
If you’re interested, the Chairless Chair is already available to purchase, and comes it many different lengths and sizes. The design claims to support 220 pounds per leg, giving it a whopping 440 pound capacity. It seems like there are plenty of jobs where the chairless chair would be a welcome addition, including any job that typically requires constantly swapping between standing and sitting. While we don’t do much swapping from one to the other, the Chairless Chair just looks cool, and that’s enough for us to want to try it out!
