“I thought… I’m Dead” – Grand Tour Host Richard Hammond Discusses Crash
If you’ve been living under a rock lately, you might not have heard of Richard Hammond’s tangle with the Rimac supercar that said him via helicopter to the hospital to have his knees repaired. Now, as it would turn out, the injuries wouldn’t be as severe as the crash may have made them look but, from behind the wheel of the car, Richard says that he was convinced that this would have been it for him. Luckily, that vision wouldn’t come to fruition and we get to hear Richard’s side of the story as he goes back and retraces exactly what he remembers from the incident while sitting beside the CEO of the company that designed the car that he wrecked who interjects here and there as they have a conversation.
With all of those years filming skits behind the wheel of some of the most impressive cars in the world, it really lead you to ask a lot of questions about how this escalated so quickly to put Richard in a position like the one that he was in. With that kind of horsepower under your foot, maybe it’s something that’s bound to happen sooner or later but, as it has been so long since we have heard of anything like this with the presenters from The Grand Tour, it really caught us out of left field.
The conversation takes many twists and turns as Richard talks about the car, what led up to the crash, and a little bit of what occurred after the crash in addition to what exactly they were doing when the accident went down. What kind of skit were they filming that led up to the dramatic incident. With this interview, you’re really able to get inside of his head and hear exactly what happened. There’s no holding back in this one as they cover all the bases in filling you in on what something like this is like. It’s not too often that you get to meet someone who has crashed such a rare supercar, mangling it this badly and living to tell about it.
