Speed Society Beyond The Build S1:E3
The third episode of our Beyond the Build series rejoins the guys at Speed Society headquarters in sunny San Diego. The guys from Vengeance are en route from Georgia, and parts start rolling in the door to transform this stock C7 Z06 into the C7R-inspired that will be awarded to the next lucky sweepstakes winner.
The parts roll in on the FedEx truck and the guys pick up the car from SD Wrap and bring it back to HQ to make some baseline dyno pulls and begin the teardown process. Vengeance Racing owner Ron and his right-hand man Sean arrive and make a couple of baseline pulls, but encounter some minor issues with the intake temperatures as well as the dyno itself. With a little tweaking, both issues are squared away and the car laid down a solid 535 horsepower to the rear wheels, and the car was ready to be torn down for the round of upgrades to begin.
While the car was on the dyno, Ramin from SD Wrap came over to finish installing the graphics and put the finishing touches on the car’s visual overhaul to accompany the changes going on under the hood. Between dyno pulls, he worked his magic and put each decal precisely where it went.
If you’ve done any work on a late model Vette, you know it’s a heck of a lot easier to do an engine rebuild with the motor out of the car, so we called up Bendpak and they shipped over a full set of hoists and jacks to facilitate the engine pull and work began, as soon as our data guru and walking test dummy Nick tested out the engine hoist’s capacity.
We’ll rejoin the thrash on the next episode, where the teardown and rebuild will be in full effect as the looming deadline closes in. There’s a lot of work to be done, but with the badass team we assembled for this project, we should get the job done on time.
