Norway's Wireless Charging Roads Provide an Epic EV Charging Solution

It seems as if, moving forward, electric vehicles will move closer and closer toward becoming the standard. In years past, they may have been nothing more than novelty but if the recent push has shown us anything, it’s that EVs are here to stay for the foreseeable future. In fact, many think that they might even stand to push combustion cars out of the picture as many countries and companies alike pledge to go fully electric by a certain year.

For example, in Norway, they plan on being fully electric by 2025, disallowing the sale of any combustion vehicles by that time. The goal seems rather ambitious. However, they are taking big steps in order to try and get there. One of the most recent development seems incredibly futuristic but is unfolding as we speak.

For those who have a cell phone that has been released in recent years, there’s a very good chance that it comes with wireless charging capability. In other words, the user will set the phone on a charging pad without plugging anything in and the device will begin to take a charge. This is exactly the idea that Norway plans to implement for electric vehicles.

Essentially, it seems as if this plan will start out with taxis that will be able to roll over a wireless charger when waiting for customers. As the taxi would be sitting idle, anyway, as a driver waits on a fair, the vehicle will be able to charge without any additional downtime. It seems like a technology that would be rather easily implemented in places like shopping malls or even personal garages as well.

Down in the video below, the folks from Tech Vision take us inside of this technology, explaining exactly how it is that it will be implemented and what we can expect from wireless charging roadways in the future.
