GT500 Swapped Mercury Crew Cab Might be the Sneakiest Swap Yet

When we think about the world of the engine swap, there are so many possibilities that really keep our minds going. Every once in a while, we see a combination pop up that we can’t help but fall in love with. This time, we check in with just that sort of combination that really takes things in a different direction than what we’re used to.

To get things kicked off, we check in with a platform that is rather unusual. The truck in question started out as a 1966 Mercury M250 crew cab. First of all, like many others, your author wasn’t even aware that this sort of truck existed. One of the things that makes it even more special is that Mercury didn’t exactly sell crew cabs off of their dealership lots. Instead, this sort of truck had to be commissioned which, as you guessed, makes it kind of rare.

Originally, this big heavy machine started off as a two wheel drive inline-six powered work truck that served an electric company for years. However, all this time later, many parts have been replaced on the beast to make it an interesting conversation piece and a machine that truck fanatics can’t help it sink their teeth into.

Let’s just say that many of the original parts have been done away with. One of the most noticeable is the front clip which is actually pulled from a 1979 model year truck. Underneath, we find a Dana 60 axle in the rear and a Dana 44 up front. Under the hood is perhaps our favorite part as we find the heart of a 2014 Shelby GT500. The 5.8 L supercharged engine created 662 hp from the factory but we’re told that it should be making about 740 hp as it sits in the “Mercrew.”
