DMV Investigates Fraud Claims For Luxury Car Consignment Dealer That Vanished Overnight
An Upland, California exotic car dealer that goes by the name of CNC Motors is under investigation by the DMV.
CNC’s facility that was once full of exotics is now empty. This comes on the heels of dozens of customers claiming that their vehicles were sold through the company’s consignment program. However, some of these vehicle owners say that they have yet to receive any money. Furthermore, the buyers of the vehicles are reportedly not receiving titles, either.
One disgruntled customer even went so far as saying that the business seems like a Ponzi scheme, using one consignment vehicle to pay off other debts that the owner might have. That’s not where the allegations stop, though. It’s almost impossible to compile all of the complaints in one place. For example, other reports have CNC actually cutting checks which would either later bounce or be reported as fraudulent by CNC before they could ever be cashed.
When confronted about the confusion, the owner had talked to a YouTube channel by the name of Normal Guy Supercar. In the interview, CNC’s owner, Clayton Thom, claims to have “made some bad business decisions during a global pandemic.”
When it came to admitting wrongdoing, the only thing that the owner admits to is being late on promises. He has, however, promised that he will remedy these situations if need be. At some point though, customers are going to begin to run out of patience.
None of this really seems to definitively explain the sudden disappearance of CNC from the Upland landscape. The news report below attempts to shed a little bit more light on the situation that has one formerly popular exotic dealer on the hot seat.
What do you think is going on behind the doors of this exotic car dealership that seems to have vanished into thin air?
