School Bus Figure 8 Racing is Just as Destructive as it Sounds
As one commenter, WonderDrugEchinacea, puts it, “Racing at 20-25 mph has never been so exciting.”
In the world of racing, there are always people trying to do new things to bring some pizzazz to the mix. It’s not that there’s necessarily anything wrong with traditional racing but every once in a while a twist can be a good time!
In this particular situation, that twist just happens to start with the fact that the vehicles in question are a little bit larger than your typical racing machine. Not only are we starting out with school buses to go head to head but they’re also racing in a figure 8. Now I know what you’re thinking, there’s a bridge or something that lets drivers go over the top of one another.
Nope!
This race is done entirely on flat ground and has competitors trying to dodge one another as the track crosses over itself. Nothing is more intense than fighting for position all while trying not to get clobbered by an oncoming vehicle. Certainly feels like a race that dishes out its fair share of bumps and bruises.
Does it seem pretty dangerous? Absolutely. However, these competitors are strapped in and ready to go. Even though the racing only gets to about 20 or 25 mph as we previously mentioned, this is definitely some edge-of-your-seat stuff. Upon watching it, I couldn’t help but find a favorite racer and root for them throughout.
When push comes to shove, there’s definitely a good amount of damage leveraged on the competitors here. However, from an entertainment standpoint, we had to say that we are thoroughly impressed. We aren’t quite sure if this is more destruction derby than it is race or vice versa but what we do know is that we definitely have to catch one of these competitions in person.
