Las Vegas Man Sues FedEx Over Used Delivery Trucks
When it’s time to buy a vehicle, there certainly can be a lot of information to sift through. Just getting through the important details to qualify a vehicle can be a challenge in and of itself. Having to do so when someone has tampered with the essentials can make things even more difficult.
One way in which somebody can alter a vehicle is by changing the odometer. Sometimes, there are legitimate reasons to change the odometer if something has broken. However, there are also underhanded reasons to change the odometer such as trying to make the buyer believe that a vehicle has less mileage than it typically does – something that would help the price shoot up.
Apparently, one buyer who has purchased a variety of what they say are used FedEx trucks is saying that the vehicles weren’t exactly advertised accurately. Instead, they say that the odometers in many of them, about 100 out of 400-500 purchased have been switched out at one point or another, showcasing lower mileage and leading this buyer to believe that the trucks were something that they are not.
As the trucks were formerly from a FedEx fleet, the situation would raise a couple of eyebrows. So what happened?
An important detail here is that a middleman has been used to sell the vehicles. Basically, FedEx uses a third party in order to distribute the trucks to auctions around the country. Therefore, it kind of gets a little bit fuzzy as to who is actually responsible, if anyone. As far as FedEx goes, they say that they deny allegations and have no place in the sales process because of this third-party distributor.
There seem to be a lot of gray areas and it’s going to take a good lawyer to get to the bottom of them. In terms of what the proper thing to do here is – if a vehicle’s mileage is different than the odometer or unknown, it should be disclosed.
