Manufacturing Plywood Boards, Then and Now
Sometimes, there are things that are part of our everyday lives and we don’t even really stop to think about how exactly they’re created. For example, plywood is definitely a staple of construction and all sorts of other projects that one might have going on. However, we aren’t too sure how many people are aware of just exactly how trees end up becoming large sheets of wood. At the end of the day, it definitely doesn’t seem like a shape that one would be able to cut from a single tree trunk so how exactly does plywood come to life?
Well, as the name infers, plywood has several plies of wood that are glued together and combined with heat and pressure to become one single sheet. This time, we get to go inside of the process of how exactly plywood is created and what turns trees into this familiar hunk of wood.
Even more, interestingly, this video gives us an opportunity to take a walk back in time as well. Not only do we get to see how plywood is made today but we also get a look at what the process was like years ago.
In both generations, the process is very different but also very similar, in a way. Essentially, they share in common the general structure of the wood and the satisfying way that they will go about peeling logs, if you will. After these sheets are cut from the logs in question, they will go through a complicated process that has been very much computerized in recent years. While the building blocks remain familiar, the blocks are constructed in a much more efficient way.
Down in the video below, we dive into the clips that will probably make you look at plywood in a way like never before. It’s pretty awesome to know that seeing behind the scenes like this can give us all-new insight into an oh-so-familiar product.
