New Ford F-150 Lightning Gets the Off-Road Torture Test
Yet again, in the automotive community, we find a situation where the pot has been stirred and a little bit of controversy has arisen. As many of us saw with the recent re-release of the Ford F-150 Lightning, we saw a lot of enthusiasts lose their minds. Initially, it was kind of shocking to see a nameplate with such a legacy behind it pulled from a high-performance pickup truck and applied to an electric vehicle.
However, once we get past this initial surprise provided by the controversial use of the Lightning name, what lies beneath is actually pretty neat.
At the end of the day, the new F-150 lightning is going to be Ford’s attempt to hop straight into the electric truck segment. As the electric vehicle market comes alive, every major automaker is going to have to take its shot at producing these things on a grand scale. As the F-150 is Ford’s best-selling vehicle, it was only natural that we would see an electric version pop up sooner or later.
With the initial presentation, Ford showed off a “frunk,” replacing the engine with storage space. Ford would also show off the truck’s ability to power a house for a couple of days, acting as a generator when needed in a pinch. However, for any performance freaks among us, we were wondering a little bit about how exactly this thing would perform off-road.
This time, we watch as the truck gets exactly that test.
Now, this thing isn’t exactly tackling Moab or anything like that. However, watching it go through a variety of different torture tests is actually pretty interesting to watch. It’s a little bit different to get used to the truck making its way through all sorts of obstacles without an exhaust note coming from it.
By following along with the video below, we get introduced to a new side of the F-150 as the Lightning is taken off the beaten path.
