Riding Aboard the First Mass Produced Electric Boat is a Strange Vibe
Sometimes the world really has a way of sneaking up on you and changing things. It seems like electric vehicle technology has just started to become mainstream. However, the Tesla brand has taken it upon itself to quickly become the most valuable automaker to exist.
With that in mind, it’s only a matter of time before electric technology starts spreading to other areas as well. If there’s a properly functioning car or SUV powered by electricity on the roads, there’s no reason why that tech couldn’t be applied to a boat as well. In fact, there are already several companies out there who have been tinkering with bringing the concept to life.
This time, we get to dive into what might be one of the most exciting electric boat concepts out there today. This one boasts the title of the first-ever electric boat that will be mass-produced. The brand by the name of Xshore is pumping out vessels that make the most of LG battery technology to give boaters a new option.
In the video below from Alfred Montaner, we’re told that the vessels can accomplish about 40 mph with the help of 1000 pound-feet of torque. The only question mark that we really seem to have is how far they will be able to go. With the demonstration, we’re told at the model presented should be able to travel about 100 miles at a low speed. Upon cranking it up, we aren’t too sure if this would make a good bay boat or something to take on long trips. However, perhaps it would make an excellent tender for a larger vessel.
As far as the asking price on something like this, the boat has been cited at about $329,000. We haven’t found too much information on pricing but assume that there are probably some options that could take that price even higher.
