Vintage Top Gear Episode Connects a V8 to a Rocking Chair, Flashback
In this day and age, it seems pretty rare that somebody comes up with an entirely original idea. In the age of the internet and social media, unfortunately, there are a lot of folks out there who just cut a carbon copy of someone else’s idea and claim it as their own.
However, when it comes to the top tier of most successful ventures, no matter the field, they seem to have a common thread of being backed up by an original thought that is executed on a high level. This is exactly what it was that allowed the Top Gear television show to really knock it out of the park, becoming the most popular automotive programming ever.
All of these years later and we can’t help but reminisce over some of our favorite bits from the show. Some of them were a little bit more serious than others but those “others” could tend to be incredibly goofy. This absurd humor delivered from the trio of hosts was definitely a part of the charm that kept so many coming back for episode after episode, season after season.
This time, we definitely dive into one of the more absurd bits as the trio put together a little bit of an odd concoction. In order to solve the difficulty of rocking forward and back in a rocking chair, this invention would revolutionize the way that a grandmother could reach out and pick up a television remote while sitting on such a chair.
The idea was rather grand, pairing a 6.2 L V8 engine that had been previously used to power a food blender, and turning it into something that could make this rocking chair the best version of itself. The long story short is that the results, while catastrophic, also ended up being about as epic as one could expect with a project from Clarkson, Hammond, and May.
