Abandoned Vehicles Litter Streets of LA in More COVID Fallout

Right now, if you were to take a walk down certain streets in Los Angeles, there would be abandoned vehicles and RVs that are littering the streets of LA like trash.

Naturally, business owners aren’t too happy about beat-up vehicles sitting out front of their stores and driving away customers. However, they say that they’ve contacted the authorities and relay that they’re told that nobody can move the vehicles because they could potentially be housing. In addition to these abandoned rides, there are said to be some people that actually are still living in their vehicles that are parked illegally.

So what gives? Well, as we can say about plenty of other things, all of it seems to stem back to COVID.

When America was first going into lockdown, parking restrictions were lifted in LA. More recently, though, these restrictions have been put back in place minus one small detail. Those vehicles that are being used as a dwelling still aren’t allowed to be moved from the streets.

One of the problems comes in the idea that it’s a little bit difficult for authorities to tell which vehicles are actively being used as dwellings and which have been left behind. Therefore, the vehicles, sometimes end up being pushed from storefront to storefront as the store owners get sick of them and move them to the next location.

In other words, right now in Los Angeles, it seems as if someone who hops out to get a coffee without paying for parking, is likely to be ticketed. However, if you park in an illegal space for a couple of months, you’ll likely be let off the hook.

To make things even more of a challenge, while tow truck drivers are paid to remove the vehicles, they often say that it costs them money to dispose of them.
