Z06 Corvette vs Police Cruiser – Can the Vette Escape Pursuit?
Let’s just get out ahead of this one and say that if there’s a police car behind you with the lights flashing and sirens blaring, it’s most likely your best option to pull over. While there are a ton of cars out there that could probably outrun a standard police cruiser, it’s not always that simple. Even though a variety of cars can outrun something like a police-issue Ford Explorer, competing with the radios and helicopters are going to be a little bit more difficult.
This time, though, thanks to the Wheels YouTube channel, we get to see how exactly a couple of cars would stack up against one another. Naturally, our thoughts here go directly to how an actual police pursuit would pan out.
In one lane we find the likes of the aforementioned police issue Explorer. In the other lane, though, we find something a little bit more potent.
That’s right, the car in the next lane over is Chevrolet’s C7 Corvette Z06. Unlike its predecessors, the C7 Z06 was the first Corvette to be supercharged straight out of the box, and with that supercharger comes a good amount of horsepower, 650 hp to be a bit more precise. Not only that but the car that’s designed for speed is a lot lighter than the police SUV as well.
For comparison’s sake, the police issue Explorer pictured is said to make around 480 horsepower and weigh 6,840 lbs. So not only is it much less powerful but we have to tack on about 3,000 lbs as well. In other words, it’s not if the Corvette is going to run away but instead just by how much.
For the sake of curiosity, down in the video below, we get to see how these two vehicles stack up against one another. Again, we think it’s important to reiterate that even though the Explorer might not be a corner-carving speed demon, the officer inside still is going to have the stout advantage in a chase situation given all of the tools at his or her disposal.
