1960’s Ford Factory Race Cars That Were 100% Street Legal

A couple of years ago, Dodge would release its version of a street-legal drag racing machine called the Demon. At the time, for some younger enthusiasts, this might’ve felt like a very new phenomenon. However, even though it was a trend that hadn’t been touched for quite some time, the idea of creating a race car that’s legal on the street is definitely not something that’s new. It is a phenomenon that many enthusiasts might wish that manufacturers would start to take part in again, though, after we all saw how well the Demon performed. I mean, what’s not to love about a musclebound monster that can dominate pretty much any other factory performance car at the drag strip?

The idea dates pretty far back. This time, we talk about how it came to life in the 1960s. While racing is incredibly popular these days, back then, it seemed to consume American attention. With drag racing and circle track racing alike becoming much more popular, major brands like Ford were chomping at the bit to try and get in where they could to take advantage of the forming market.

With this need to capitalize, we would see some pretty cool things ideas to life. It was around that time that Ford and others had started producing factory race cars that were 100% legal to drive on the street. The interesting thing about these machines is that many of them, for one reason or another, were incredibly limited production and some might even slide under the radar for the younger car fans among us if videos like this didn’t exist.
