Jeff Lutz Goes up in Flames vs Kye Kelley in $40,000 Final Race
If racers had their way, every single event would go off without a hitch. However, with the wide variety of things that can happen out there on the racing surface, something is bound to go awry for at least one competitor at a given No Prep Kings event. With such high horsepower being thrown around and so many components that need to work together in order to create the perfect pass down the drag strip, the odds certainly aren’t in favor of having a 100% clean event.
This time, we check in with a No Prep Kings event at Brainerd International Raceway out in Minnesota.
As fate would have it, Jeff Lutz and Kye Kelley would have what it took to make it all the way to the final round to face off with one another. What some folks might not realize is that this isn’t just any race for the finals. We aren’t just competing for points. Instead, also on the line, we find a $40,000 purse to go along with all of the other perks.
This time, the crew over at National No Prep Racing Association highlights the run to the finals along with telling us exactly what happened in that last round to make things get a little bit crazy.
The final round was intense as the nitrous-powered setup under Kelley’s hood took on the twin-turbo setup that Lutz was working with. Even though both cars made it down the track, after the race, Jeff Lutz’s yellow Pontiac GTO ended up catching on fire and spinning out of control after what appeared to be some sort of a fluid leak. Lutz did a wonderful job of keeping it out of the wall but that’s not where things ended.
Down in the video below, we get to see the entire sequence in action along with learning a little bit more about how that day unfolded.
