DeLorean Launches its First New Car in 40 Years
The nostalgic DeLorean automotive brand was pretty short-lived upon its first run as the production only lasted for a couple of years back in the 1980s. However, while small, the brand had a pretty huge pop as its DMC-12 was featured as the time machine in the Back to the Future movies at the time.
Since then, we haven’t seen a new DeLorean model come to life. The last time that the brand pumped out a new car was 40 years ago with its metal-clad futuristic-looking sports car that we all know so well.
However, the brand has recently pulled the covers from its latest offering which it calls the Alpha5. While paying homage to DeLorean models of the past, the Alpha5 also brings the new era of motoring into focus. In fact, we might even go so far as saying that the car gets incredibly creative with technology, focusing on creating a bond between man and machine in a way that we’re not going to see with other cars.
For example, the Alpha5 takes the liberty of introducing technology that is able to sync the car’s operations with the driver’s vital signs. It also includes tech to show the driver where their friends are and it has a digital panel that can operate as a modern display or can be set to mimic the original gauge cluster that one would find in the Alpha5’s predecessor. It really is everything that fans of the original could imagine they’d see in the future and more!
Outside, the car is as slick as ever and offers up a complete aluminum body aside from the doors which are made of a light composite material and also offer a pretty interesting way of entering the machine which is better seen in the video below than described.
For those who might be interested in the car, more details can be found in the video below from CNET. We frequently see concepts that never make it to market but DeLorean has assured us that the Alpha5 is a real car and is expected to hit roads in 2024 for a price tag of $145,000
