Bugatti Forced to Recall Every Chiron Pur Sport ($4 Million Each!)

When somebody drops nearly $4 million on a car, there are certain things that they expect. There’s a certain level of “hands-off” that one expects when spending that kind of money. Things like recalls aren’t something that Bugatti owners want to be bothered by.

In other words, it doesn’t seem to be all that often that we see Bugatti coming up on the recall list. Every once in a while, though, things happen. At the end of the day, none of us are perfect and that includes high-end automotive manufacturers.

This time, the recall comes at the expense of the rubber underneath of the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. Unfortunately for the company, this isn’t really something that they can control unless they have a crystal ball. They are going to be left with the issue of the tires that come with the car developing cracks after 2,500 miles or so of usage.

It would appear as if, per Bugatti’s reaction, it’s going to take a little bit of an effort to properly fix the issue. It doesn’t appear to be something as simple as slapping a new set of tires on the cars and calling it a day, even though this will be their interim fix until they can come up with a set of rubber that doesn’t suffer these issues.

Per NHSTA: “Bugatti is recalling certain 2021-2022 Chiron Pur Sport vehicles. After 2,500 miles of usage, the rear tires may develop cracks.”

“As an interim repair, dealers will replace the rear tires on the affected vehicles every 1,875 miles or when tire age reaches 1.5 years. Once newly designed tires are available, the tires will be replaced again. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners with tires that have already reached 2,500 miles or 1.5 years should not drive their vehicle until the tires are replaced. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 30, 2021. Owners may contact Bugatti customer service at 1-703-826-7545. Bugatti’s number for this recall is BUGCR025.”

The recall doesn’t mention exactly why Bugatti can’t simply provide a different tire. We would be left to assume that it has something to do with the high-speed capabilities of the vehicle and, as such, the need for a more durable tire.
