Indiana State Police Uses “Ghost Truck” to Sneak up on Aggressive Drivers
When it comes to driving a big rig, we think that just about any truck driver will explain that it’s definitely an occupation that can be frustrating. There are a lot of considerations that need to be made that can make the job rather stressful. As if that wasn’t enough, other motorists on the highway aren’t always all that accommodating for the big vehicles that we share the highways with.
What some folks don’t seem to know or don’t care about is that these big machines don’t operate in the same way as a car. Instead, they take a lot longer to do things like slow down and stop. However, that doesn’t prevent drivers from being aggressive and getting in the way of these massive vehicles. It seems like sometimes, people on the highways just want to get every last inch that they can without giving anything in order to shave a minute or two off the commute.
In a lot of cases, this sort of driving might just be inconvenient. However, when it comes to doing it around a heavy truck that can’t always stop in a hurry, it becomes downright dangerous. Therefore, some police departments are stepping up in order to try new methods to help truckers by citing other motorists who are driving aggressively.
Down in the video below, thanks to IndyStar, we’re able to ride along with the Indiana State Police and one of the measures that they’re taking to curb aggressive drivers. In what they call a “ghost truck,” police officers actually ride in the passenger seat of a semi-truck that isn’t necessarily heading to a destination. Instead, the truck is just designed to help officers get up and down the highway, finding aggressive drivers and pointing them out so that their colleagues in squad cars can go and conduct a traffic stop.
