The “Zipline” Delivery Drone is About to Change the Way we See Delivery Forever
In today’s world, we have become accustomed to convenient and efficient delivery services that have revolutionized the way we obtain goods. With online retailers like Amazon offering same-day delivery, along with food delivery apps like Grubhub and DoorDash, we hardly need to leave our homes to get what we need. I think it’s safe to say that America has become pretty spoiled with convenience and will continue to become more so as time progresses.
While these services have brought a new level of convenience to our lives, there is still room for improvement, even for companies as advanced as Amazon. When it comes to food delivery, the system is not as streamlined as it could be, and the cost of delivery can be quite high. For example, the reliance on heavy automobiles to deliver these goods results in high energy consumption.
For years, we have been promised that drone delivery services could be the next big thing. They hold the potential to greatly improve the efficiency and convenience of delivery. If you thought Amazon had your delivery ready same-day, imagine simply pressing a button and having a drone drop off your purchase within an hour, eliminating the need for a delivery driver.
Drone technology even has the potential to go beyond just luxury food deliveries, and could even be used to deliver life-saving materials to people in need around the world. However, despite these promises, drone delivery services have yet to become widely available.
In a recent video put together by YouTube creator Mark Rober, he discusses the reasons why drone technology has yet to be implemented on a large scale. While the technology itself is impressive and continues to evolve, there are still regulatory and logistical challenges that need to be addressed before drone deliveries can become a part of our daily lives.
