Doug Gordon Walks Away From the Craziest 200 MPH Wreck We’ve Seen in a While
During the course of a race, we never know what’s going to happen. At the end of the day, this is why we show up to the track and do battle. We absolutely never know who is going to come out on top even when things might look a certain way on paper. Furthermore, the unexpected can happen in a negative direction as well. When you’re traveling at speeds that can reach 200 mph or more, things can certainly have a way of going awry and when a car gets away from you at these speeds, it’s going to be about impossible to recover.
This time, we check in with the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals and a scene that is absolutely crazy, to say the least. In fact, when we watched this wild ride that Doug Gordon went on, our stomachs practically sank. There are just certain situations where you get a bad feeling before knowing the actual outcome. Fortunately, in this case, Gordon would be able to walk away but the video left behind is incredible, to say the least.
As we watch the pass unfold, we spectate as Gordon and his car accelerate to speeds of 200 mph. Everything appears to be going smoothly during the pass. However, things escalate once Gordon’s car slides sideways, skidding across the track and straight into the wall. It gets even worse when the car manages to flip over, sliding upside down on the wall, and making heavy contact with the cockpit area where the driver is sitting. At the end of the day, it’s amazing how far safety equipment in this level of racing has come to the point where an accident can look this nasty and the driver can safely walk away, preserving their life for another race.
The video below takes us to the scene of the incident that will certainly go down in NHRA history.
