Vintage Footage From 1989 Funny Car Tug-of-War is Pure Nostalgia
These days, there are a ton of YouTube channels that cover drag racing. In fact, it might be hard to count all of them. Some have come and gone and others have stuck around for the long haul. However, with a creator like zlumlord, we get to check in with footage that goes back further than most channels. In fact, some of the videos posted on this particular channel go all the way back to the 1980s to see what drag strips looked like during a simpler time.
In this particular clip, we check in with a whole lot of nostalgia. The year is 1989 and the drag strip is likely filled with everything from brand-new Fox Body Mustangs to third-generation Chevrolet Camaros and everything in between.
With this video, though, we check out something that makes just a little bit more power, a couple of funny cars that came out to do battle at New Jersey’s Atco Dragway.
However, the way that these two drivers were going to throw down isn’t exactly what most fans are probably expecting. Instead of setting those big tires on the strip and doing battle at high speeds to see who can get to the finish line first, these two cars go back to back and hook up to one another. That’s right, the high-speed machines that are purpose-built for nothing other than heading down the strip in a straight line prepare to partake in a tug-of-war.
By following along with the video below, not only do we get to hop in the time machine and take a trip back to the 80s. We also get to see a pretty unique sight as it isn’t very often that somebody with a funny car is going to be willing to hook it up to another funny car and do battle like this.
