1973 AMC Gremlin First Start After 28 Years Off The Streets
We have been finding some awesome “first start” videos lately where fellow gearheads have breathed new life into engines that have been sitting for decades. YouTuber Jonathan W has a definite knack for finding cars that certainly look like they’d be very unlikely to crank, spending a few minutes working with the carburetor and ignition system and cleaning under the hood a bit and coaxing the engines back to life.
With this 1973 AMC Gremlin, Jonathan has yet another classic to work his magic on, and after formulating a plan, he goes about his mission of hearing the Gremlin’s engine running again. With a little fresh gas in the AMC’s tank and a fresh battery connected, it takes only a couple of minutes for the engine to fire up, and it actually runs for over a minute and a half, even purring along nicely at idle for a few moments.
It’s pretty clear Jonathan knows what he’s doing when it comes to rescuing abandoned cars and getting them running again without pulling the engine and gong through it. You just can’t help but grin when these engines kick off and run for the first time in years, reminding you how, as your dad has probably told you numerous times, they just don’t build them like they used to.
