2019 Camaro ZL1 Pushes Stock Blower to New Record!
Some might think that when a car comes out of the factory, everything needs to be changed in order to make it go faster. Well, in this day and age, especially, that isn’t very true. Instead, there are generally a lot of factory components onboard these days that can be pushed pretty hard. These days, we see folks using factory everything. From rear ends to transmissions and even superchargers, factory components have really packed a heavy punch. In fact, sometimes, we even see a factory supercharger swapped onto an application that it never came on. If that doesn’t speak to the performance potential of some of these parts, I’m not sure what does.
This time, we take a ride down to Street Car Takeover in Maryland to check out a pretty neat Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. This car hasn’t really going through that much extensive modification. In fact, it even retains the stock supercharger. However, that wouldn’t stop it from setting the record for a stock blower. In this one, the 2019 manages to push its way all the way into the middle 9s. When all is said and done, a 9.50 is where the car from Killer Performance in Kansas City would eventually end up landing.
The man behind it, co-owner of Street Car Takeover, Justin Keith, seems to be under the belief that the car can go even faster in similar trim. He tells us that the next course of action is a better heat exchanger. This should help control temps as it barrels down the track.
With just about any drag racer, tweaking has to be done in between every pass to make things more efficient. As the Camaro hasn’t been on the track for that long, we’re left to assume that there is still a little bit left in it. It will be interesting to see just how far Justin is able to take this record and push it. Will we be seeing an 8-second car utilizing the factory blower before long?
