Alex Laughlin to Run ProMod in His New Blown 1968 Camaro
Alex Laughlin is at it again and this time, he’s taking on the world of ProMod with his latest acquisition. The adrenaline will be delivered in the form of a Tim McAmis Race Cars 1968 Chevrolet Camaro creation. The car is powered by a blown Snyder Motorsports Pro Mod Legal 477 cubic inch powerplant.
Laughlin talked to us a bit about his decision to go with this particular setup.
In a conversation with Speed Society, he recalls, “Last year I ran a ProMod with the support of Elite Motorsports. I didn’t own that car. That’s why it was a turbo car instead of blower-powered. I didn’t really have a choice and everyone knows that I am more of a blower guy.” He continues, “The car that I raced at the Orlando Door Slammer Nationals was the Caruso Family car that they offered me to drive if I could bring the funding. While I potentially could still run some races with the Carouso family, this car is going to be my personal ProMod and I will bring my own support in Franky Taylor and Jeremy Parsley.”
Laughlin tells us that he will start off with the Lenco transmission that’s in the car. He says that the data collected with the combo should be valuable come race day. However, the team will be working toward replacing the trans with a turbo 400 from the guys at ATI performance. ATI sponsored Laughlin for the Orland Door Slammer Nationals.
Laughlin isn’t quite sure how many races he will end up running this year in ProMod but says that he wanted something a little more diverse than a Pro Stock or radial car. He tells us that he’s considering his local ProMod series which is eighth-mile and potentially running in the PDRA. Laughlin says that he could even put radials on the car if he really wanted to.
He does comment that “Of course, there are many more late-model cars out there but this one fit [his] budget and it’s a really nice car.”
At the end of the day, though, he tells us that the goal is to “Have some fun with it and turn on some win lights”
