Breaking : GM Recalls 484,000 Trucks / SUV Due to Seatbelt Issues
General Motors has recalled nearly half of a million vehicles in a recent press release as it relates to the seatbelt systems in most of its large SUV offerings.
Per NHSTA, “General Motors, LLC (M) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with third-row seats. The rivet that retains the buckle to the mounting bracket in the left or right side third-row seat belt buckle assembly may have been improperly formed.”
General Motors learned of the seatbelt defect back in May when a customer reported that the seatbelt on their particular vehicle had separated in the third row. Since then, they have put the steps in place to take action to try and remedy the problem before it has an impact on its customers.
As far as how all of this is going to play out for those with impacted vehicles, dealers will inspect the rivet head formation on both sides of the third-row seat belt buckle assemblies. They will then replace these assemblies as necessary, free of charge. The NHSTA reports that notification letters are expected to be mailed on September 26. NHSTA goes on to inform that have been impacted by this issue may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020; Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006; and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM’s number for this recall is N222372380.
The report doesn’t state just how many vehicles are believed to be impacted by the recall, in total. What it does stay, though, is that fortunately, no injuries have occurred as a result of the defect. As with other recalls, we would definitely recommend checking into this if your vehicle is impacted. While some of these things can seem a little bit frivolous, something like this could end up being a big deal if not properly attended to.
