Chevrolet’s new ‘Vette Track Toy: Corvette Grand Sport

A couple of weeks ago, Chevrolet dropped the new Camaro 1LE on us. A track-focused Camaro meant to take on the local road course with ease. Now they’ve dropped their newest track toy on us; the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport.

The Grand Sport was released in 1963 as a racecar to take on the Shelby Cobra. This new Corvette has been engineering as a true track monster. The Corvette fills the gap between the monstrous Z06 and the standard Stingray. It is equipped with fat Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, Grand Sport wheels, big Brembo’s, magnetic ride control, and more. It is pretty much a Z06 without the supercharger. You can even opt for the Z07 package which gives bigger carbon ceramic-matric brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Cup tires and a carbon-fiber aero package. The Grand Sport can manage 1.05g on the skidpad, but add on the Z07 package for 1.2g of grip.

They tell us that the Grand Sport should be available this summer in the U.S., but European buyers will have to wait until the fall. The car pictures is not only a Grand Sport, it is their Grand Sport Collector Edition. It comes in Watkins Glen Gray Metallic with Tension Blue hash-mark graphics, satin black stripes, black wheels and Tension Blue leather and suede-wrapped interior. One of the coolest parts in the Collector Edition’s interior is the original ’63 Grand Sport embossed into the headrests.

They haven’t released the pricing yet, but former Grand Sports were only a few thousand more than a base model. Stay tuned to find out what Chevrolet brings us next. Fingers crossed for the new Camaro ZL1.
