Daddy Dave VS Black Widow In Topeka Kansas.
As the saying goes, when discussing the favorite vs an underdog in the racing world, “… and that’s why we race on the track, not on paper.”
To be clear, we’re hardly trying to classify this gorgeous Dodge Dart, appropriately named the Black Widow, as an outright underdog, as it is evident from the first look we get at the car that it’s not to be taken lightly. However, with Street Outlaws star Daddy Dave in the other lane, there aren’t too many cars that would be considered the favorite to take the win over Dave’s badass ProCharged Chevy II, dubbed Goliath.
When the chips were drawn at the most recent No Prep Kings shootout at Topeka, KS and these two cars lined up, most of the fans on the property expected Dave to take the win, not because Black Widow is slow, but because Dave has had Goliath running really well lately and when Dave has a car working well and running hard, there aren’t too many cars in the no prep world that would be easy to pick to take him down.
This time, however, those who bet against Dave would be walking away with a pocket full of other people’s money, because while Goliath has been a force to be reckoned with, the inherently unpredictable nature of no prep racing has proved time and again that anything can and will happen. All it takes is one minor issue, like Dave’s hotrod pulling toward the centerline just after launching, to open the door for Black Widow to drive around him and take the win.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we don’t race on paper. Black Widow laid down a picture-perfect pass that proved sometimes slightly slower and steady wins the race over faster and on the verge of out of control. If these two ever meet again, you can bet Dave will be out to even up the score and get a little retribution, as he was clearly out in front before having to lift to keep from crossing the centerline. We’ll see how it goes next time, but you can bet there will be a few people who choose Black Widow to ride with next time around.
