First Shots of the C8 Z06 Spotted in the Wild Show Off New Body Enhancements
It’s about that time again!
Now that the general public is getting used to the offering that is the C8 Corvette, the details of the new model are drawing us back in. The legendary Z06 is the next version of the car to find its way into the hands of the public. Historically, the Z06 has been a step above the base model car, providing both performance upgrades and a more aggressive styling. Corvette fans abroad are dying to see how the concept will apply to the mid-engined variant.
GM Authority was one of the first outlets to spot the Corvette doing testing. They broke the news that it would appear as if the car had a more drastically swooping spoiler. The spoiler doesn’t appear to be in place on these test mules spotted in the wild, believed to be the C8 Z06.
They also took the time to report that GM may be working on active aero for the car but it’s unclear if that will be applied to the Z06 or saved for the ZR1 or the rumored Zora trim package.
Lastly, the spy shots have managed to showcase that the car will have ultra-wide tires onboard. Again, the stance has become synonymous with the Z06. Those steam rollers generally provide a little bit more traction for the power that the car will lay down.
Speaking of power, there’s nothing new or official on what will be under the hood just yet. While it’s unconfirmed, the car is believed to sport a naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 engine. Most notably, the engine is due to come with a flat-plane crankshaft and DOHC 32-valve configuration. When all is said and done, the car should create 600 horsepower and somewhere around 500 lb-ft of torque.
The scheduled release date for the car is late 2021. With the pandemic, GM Authority is reporting that the release might have to wait until early 2022, though.
