NHRA Nitro Funny car Driver Jonnie Lindberg Loses His Chutes at 300+MPH!

As one of the newest drivers for Team Speed Society Racing, Jonnie Lindberg could be the most versatile tool in our arsenal of race car drivers. Lindberg, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, is a driver, tuner and car owner who has managed to excel at all three disciplines while simultaneously maintaining his edgy charisma that has drawn him growing base of loyal fans.

Between tuning his Alcohol Funny Car, driven by his brother Johan in the NHRA sportsman ranks, and dialing in the tune on Pro Mods back home in Sweden, Jonnie also manages to serve as the driver of Jim Head’s nitro funny car, a job that seems perfectly suited for Lindberg, who doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything.

At the recent NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis, Lindberg went for a bit of an excursion in the 325+ MPH-capable nitro Funny Car when the chuted failed at the end of a qualifying run. As you can see in the video below, captured on Jonnie’s helmet-mounted GoPro, Jonnie laid down a solid run, only to find the car not slowing down as quickly as usual. With only the brakes to scrub speed, Lindberg knows the sand trap is coming up fast, so he does everything he can to slow the car. Funny Cars, being such short wheelbase machines, have a tendency to hop if the brakes are applied to hard, and you can hear the rear end begin to bounce as the car nears the end of the shutdown area. However, Jonnie doesn’t panic and knows exactly what to do, letting off the brake pressure enough to settle the bouncing before getting back on the brakes.

While the car did nose into the sand trap, Jonnie had managed to slow the car enough that it just plowed up a little of the tiny gravel filling the trap, leaving the car undamaged and Jonnie uninjured. The team drug the car back onto the asphalt, cleaned out the dust and gravel, and continued on with their weekend. This calm-under-pressure is just one of the reasons we’re proud to have joined forces with Lindberg and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this bright young NHRA star!
