The Dung Beetle Pulls a Wheelie on the Street! No Burnout!
Last week, we showed you the infamous Dung Beetle hitting the dyno, though in true grudge-racer fashion, Street Outlaws star and the Dung Beetle’s owner AZN elected not to reveal the dyno numbers.
Now we’re showing you another piece of the puzzle that will help understand just why the Beetle often outruns cars with much higher horsepower: traction! With it’s boosted powerplant hung out over the back wheels, the Dung Beetle is able to launch extremely hard, even on the street. Many racers live and die by the adage “Races are won in the first 60 feet,” and if you need any farther proof, just watch the Dung Beetle in action. AZN is able to leave so hard the front wheels catch some serious air, and that holeshot is hard to overcome, even for cars with more power on tap. These launches give the VW a distinct advantage on the street, especially, where traction is often hard to find.
Check out the video below and watch the launch for yourself. Now imagine trying to run that down from behind, no matter how much power you have on tap, because YOUR car doesn’t hook like that!
