2020 Supra Punches Into the 9s and it’s Not Even 2020 Yet
Well that didn’t take long!
When the latest in the Toyota Supra lineage came to life, there were definitely some questions. The car dubbed the “MKV” was a collaborative effort with BMW and opinions came to life. With such a large following behind the previous generation, the machine had a lot to live up to. Borrowing architecture from German engineering wasn’t what most were expecting. Naturally, lots of questions began brewing about how great a BMW powered Supra could actually be. Let’s just say that the 2JZ left quite the shoes to fill.
While we haven’t found the absolute limits of the engine yet, it looks like we’re off to a good start. With a touch of modification, it looks like one shop was actually able to push the car into the 9s. Speedy Mufflers & Performance in Puerto Rico provided the muscle behind the effort. In order to bring things to life, they elected to go with a NOS nitrous system. Other than that, they simply list the other modifications as 100 Octane Fuel and Hoosier Drag Radial Tires. In other words, this thing has only had some basic mods and is already pumping out desirable results.
By following along in the video below, we’re able to catch up with what this mighty Supra is all about. Granted that this is just the tip of the iceberg, we have to admit that excitement is growing with this platform. Just imagine what is going to be possible once the aftermarket really starts to crack into the architecture. For those who don’t want to wait too long, though, it looks like the machine can easily provide the juice to be a 9-second streetcar.
After seeing the Supra slide straight into the 9s so quickly, does it change your opinion on the car? This one is certainly going to continue to be controversial given the partnership with BMW. However, this move is going to do nothing but help the cause!
