He Built an 8-Second Truck in his Driveway – Mad Talent!
In the racing world today you will typically see more high-dollar corporate racing teams than your old school, grassroots, garage builds these days. With corporate names like Schumacher, and Force dominating the top-tier racing series’ in the NHRA, with sponsors like PEAK, Papa John’s US Army, Advanced Auto parts, and MOPAR just to name a few. In this case, we head out to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the Holley LS Fest. An event they put on every year for the small time, Garage built, backyard style build racers. With something to do for everyone whether you fancy autocross, Drifting, or Drag racing you will find something you like.
In this showcase, we will see a mid 90’s pickup truck with a turbocharged LS motor making some serious steam! This setup made 1000+ Horsepower on the dyno, and it shows when the truck leaves the line! The craziest part about this build is he doesn’t even have a garage to do it in! He’s working in a gravel driveway where his grandmother would sometimes have to come help him push the truck away from the cherry picker to pull his power plant out!
In his first pass, you can see the truck launch hard, and a tad crooked while riding a 3 wheel motion wheelstand! Taking down an F-body Camaro en route to a stout 9.119 ET @149 mph in the 1/4 mile to the Camaro’s 9.47 @148 mph!
In his second pass, you see him once again leave hard, with 1 wheel in the air as he takes down a smaller truck en route to a 9.14 @149 mph this time, to the other trucks 11.28 @120 mph.
In his third and final pass he lines up with a Trailblazer SS which we all know are no joke! Packing a similar powerplant, and All Wheel Drive these SUV’s are certainly capable of running excellent times. This pass you see him take down the Trailblazer with a blazing fast 8.97 @146 mph while pushing a head gasket out at about the 1000 foot mark causing his weekend to come to an abrupt end. To the trailblazers respectable 10.53 @130 mph. After the run he finds out he not only had an issue with his powerplant letting go, but his rear end is also crooked causing him to leave the line awkwardly.
