Honda Formula 1 Motor at 21,000 RPM
If you’ve never seen a Formula 1 engine on the dyno, you don’t know what you’ve been missing! Not only do they run the engines up to see what kind of power they make, but they have the capability to make a virtual lap around a track, using the transmission and the dyno software to control the revs as if they car were being driven around the track. They have even developed software that lets the engines run a complete virtual race sitting right there on the dyno stand.
Check out this clip featuring one of Honda’s F1 powerplants running up through the revs with the transmission shifting through the gears, causing the distinct rev and shift pattern we hear when the cars themselves are racing. The exhaust gasses get so hot under load that the exhaust tubing begins to glow a vibrant orange.
