MTV’s “Pimp My Ride” Might’ve Been a Bit Dishonest, Here’s the Truth
It’s no secret that reality television isn’t exactly honest all the time. Some shows are certainly worse offenders than others. One that we thought we could rely on was MTV’s Pimp My Ride, though. Sure, they probably had to throw some Hollywood magic at it in order to make the show a little bit more interesting. However, we thought that this would come through a little bit of creative editing. How misleading could a show about modifying cars really be? Well, it seems as if the producers really decided that they needed to have a strong hand in the direction that the television show would go.
As it turns out, there are contestants that would come forward after the show who weren’t too happy with their experience or admitted that some of it wasn’t exactly factual. There are several videos going around that outline all sorts of different testimonies from people who were on air with the show. Many of them share factors in common.
When it came to how they ended up getting these folks on the show, there was a casting process involved. Therefore, none of them were actually surprised when Xzibit, the show’s host, showed up at their door. Sure, it might’ve been exciting but most of the reactions were allegedly faked as directed by the show’s producers. That isn’t where the fakery Stops, though.
Instead, we learn that entire storylines were even made up. Many of the people weren’t as broke or lonely as the show wanted to portray them. In turn, one contestant insisted that they made the entire experience all about his weight. The show even went so far as to sprinkle candy in his backseat to make things look even worse. One person recalls that the show purposely destroyed their vehicle. This was to make its condition appear as if it was a derelict. I guess that they thought that it was in too good of condition to be elected for pimping.
By following along with the video below, we get to hear the testimony of some of the people who got first-hand experience with the production that has become a cultural icon. Pimp My Ride is buried back in the early 2000s. While they certainly didn’t seem to offer up much truth, we can’t help but have fond memories of watching the show.
